safe hair dye for pregnancy

Just like several other beauty products, hair dyes have many chemicals that can be both damaging to your hair as well as your skin and the rest of your body. Most hair dyes now a days are especially trying to reduce the amounts of chemicals that are used in their products. However they still do contain those chemicals that can be harmful to your health. This can also mean, that when you get pregnant, those chemicals can be transferred onto your baby, and could possibly have damaging long term effects (only during the first trimester, after it will be less damaging as baby will be less vulnerable.)

Are there any safe hair dyes?

Absolutely! One of the best hair dyes out there are Pure Henna or lawsonia inermis. Which is a semi-permanent vegetable dye that can get quite messy. Pure henna will turn your hair a little more on the orange side, so it is a product that you should use if that is the look that you are going for. It also takes a while to take to the hair, but in the end, it is worth it.

There are other vegetable dyes out there, but it is possible that they could have some synthetic dyes that are definitely not natural, and quite unhealthy for your hair. This does include Henna products that react fast. (They are the ones that are not pure henna, and you should be wary of them when you buy them)

What Safe Hair Dyes Are There? And Where Can I Find Them?

We have you covered! Here is a list of natural hair dyes (and where to find them) that are safer  for pregnancy:

Tints of Nature Permanent Colour 6C Dark Ash Blonde

Hair Print – Which is a product that restores grey hair back to your natural hair color.

Moroccan Method Henna Hair Dye

Final Note:

If you are a lover of hair dye, and dying your hair regularly, then please do make sure that you use gloves, and do so in a well ventilated area (so it must have windows.) Also, do not leave the dye in longer than it needs to, and make sure that you rinse your hair out well enough that there is no more dye left on your scalp.
Happy Dyeing!

  1. Might I suggest Madison Reed? It is FREE of ammonia, gluten, PPD and 20 other chemicals that are still legal here in the US but have been banned in the EU, due to their harmful effects. It is a little more, but they have customer service people who will help you get the color your dreaming of and it’s not harmful to your body! Who could ask for more? I’ve been using it for 3 months now and my scalp doesn’t burn like it did with other colors.
