Fried Green Tomatoes

I’m pretty sure that I’ve seen the movie Fried Green Tomatoes 100 times, but before today, only had the dish once.  My mom considers tomatoes only fit for salsa or spaghetti sauce so it’s no wonder that this dish never graced our table when I was young.

Anyhow, I was bumping around a new market and saw these and immediately thought, OK I have to try to make fried green tomatoes.   Look at these babies, they are just begging to get eaten.

This recipe is super simple.  Batter and fry and you’ve got a tasty side dish for dinner.  They cook up quick and man are they good with hot sauce.  Now, if you want to kick it up a notch you can add a second coating of crushed pork rinds before you fry them.

Kim, they are so good! Also, a great way to use up those garden tomatoes that never ripen 🙂

I am from the land of fried green tomatoes, and I have never even tried them. How is that possible? Maybe I will just have to make my very own.

These look good. And I love the pork-rind suggestion. I may have to try that on other fried foods as well…

Being from New England, I never tried these until I lived in Alabama for a while! But then I fell in love with the food: hush puppies, banana pudding, catfish, fried green tomatoes. Yum!

Yum, Yum, Yum. I had a BLT with fried green tomatoes once and it was incredible. I need to try to recreate it at home.

OMG!! I haven’t have friend green tomatoes since I was a little girl. My dad use to make these all the time. I think I may make some of these this weekend to see how my kids like them. Thanks!

Clearly I’m meant to eat these soon because my daughter tempted me when she tried them on our recent vacay and now you’re tempting me. Ok, consider it done.

Hello I was wondering if you think these would work well with an egg replacement such as ener-G or a flax egg? Thanks so much!

I’ve never used either with this recipe hun. Is ener-G similar in texture to an egg?
