The Paleo Diet is one of the fastest spreading diets on the planet right now, with many people enjoying its simple rules, and they are seeing weight-loss and health improvements right away. With the temptation of a sugary, processed snack or soda on every corner, maintaining a paleo diet can be difficult if you don’t prepare yourself some snacks. Here are eight ideas to help you keep your paleo diet intact, while still getting the energy you need through the day.
Chocolate Chip Cookie Bites
Almost any dieter will have to quit chocolate, but with paleo this doesn’t have to be the case. Using chocolate with a high-cocoa content and no added sugar can be a ticket to flavor country for a paleo dieter. These cookies contain little to no sugar and are full of natural proteins.
Stuffed bananas are a great snack, filled with potassium for a quick energy burst. They need just a few basic ingredients: bananas, almond butter, and coconut butter. After that, you can think about your toppings, and they are a great opportunity to use some chocolate chips that are high in cocoa solids, or nuts like walnuts and brazil nuts.
Chocolate and Strawberry Muffins
A nut-free snack, these pretty little muffins are made with cocoa powder, coconut flour, honey and, of course, fresh strawberries. Two or three of these little cakes can make a great dessert to top off a paleo banquet but are equally as good on the go. Keep them in a little baggy, or an airtight container and they will last for days.
Paleo Coffee is a quick and simple pick-me-up (also perfect with a paleo cinnamon roll). Coffee of any kind is paleo friendly, and modern ‘pod’ coffees, such as Keurig single-serving, offer a quick solution; some k cups are even recyclable. The important part is to avoid dairy and sugar. Using coconut milk is a great alternative to regular milk, and cinnamon and vanilla are a good way to ease coffee’s bitter taste without resorting to sugar or sweeteners.
Baked Butternut Squash Fries
These low-carb fries will instantly become your go-to snack or your new favorite side dish. They are great cold in a lunch box, but fresh from the oven they may just be better than potato fries. They are wonderful when spiced too, so offer a great chance to cut down on salt and use some freshly ground black pepper or paprika.
Avocado Tuna Salad
An Avocado Tuna Salad is a great snack to have handy in a fridge or your lunchbox for work or school. Using a half an avocado, or two halves if you are very hungry, you can spread a low-fat tuna and sweetcorn mix onto the avocado and into the divot left by the stone.
Honey and Almond Granola Bars
A simple homemade granola bar, these are a real lifesaver if you keep some in a handbag or briefcase for when you are out and about. Packed with almonds and held together with honey, these are a sweet and satisfying little snack that you will keep going back to.
Lemon Bliss Balls
These tangy balls of bliss can be whipped up over the weekend and kept in a container all week to satisfy your snack attacks. Using dates as a natural sweetener, they are also packed with almonds, cashews, and rolled in coconut for a big protein hit to pick you up when you need it.
With so many paleo pick-me-up options, you should be able to keep the diet going without giving in to the temptation of processed snacks and sugary sodas.
