They say dogs are a man’s best friend – and with good reason. Dogs have been domesticated animals living and serving alongside men for years. They’re great companions in that they boost your mood, improve your health, and enrich your lives. That’s why lots of dog owners treat them as if they’re part of the family.

Though there’s nothing wrong with treating your dog as if it were your own child or relative. In fact, there are a lot of similarities between dogs and humans that would justify such treatment. Be that as it may, there are simply some things you’d do for yourself or loved ones that could prove detrimental to your pup.

Feeding Them Table Food

The fastest way to cause health and nutrition problems for your dog is to start feeding them table food. Dogs love food and will essentially eat anything you put in front of them, but it’s not always good for them. Feeding your dog processed foods, dairy products, chocolate, or foods that are high in sugar, fat, and salt can have an adverse effect on their health. Your dog could become obese and suffer from a number of health issues.

While it might be okay to give your dog a nice T-bone steak for their birthday or some other treat on a special occasion, doing this on a daily basis could backfire. Instead search for healthy pet products made from whole, natural, and gut-friendly ingredients to support good digestive health.

Treating Them with Human Medications

You love your dog and, of course, don’t want to see them in any pain or discomfort. So, when they get sick, you naturally want to give them medication to help them feel better. Unfortunately, some pet owners try to treat animal issues with human medication. They don’t realize that medications designed for humans do not take pets into consideration.

Dogs are a lot smaller than humans and have a different biological makeup meaning the doses and ingredients contained in medications for humans isn’t safe for dogs. Though they may be displaying a lot of the same symptoms a human might, it’s not wise to give them your medication. It is best to invest in things specifically designed for canines. If they’re suffering from allergies, look for Benadryl for dogs. If they’re experiencing pain, ask your vet about pain meds for dogs. They might recommend hemp-infused dog treats, which are specially formulated to provide the right combination of ingredients suitable for our four-legged friends, aiding them in combating a cavalcade of health issues.

Using Human Logic to Deal with Dog Behavior

Often dogs aren’t disciplined or treated properly (or at all) when it comes to certain behaviors. Many pet owners explain away behaviors that should be red flags as nothing more than “typical dog behavior”. A dog who growls at strangers that pass by is viewed as being protective, however, it could mean that your dog is suffering from anxiety. The same goes for a dog who starts using the restroom in the house and chewing up your belongings. It’s chalked up to boredom or “what dogs do”, however, it could really mean that the dog needs better house training or is struggling with separation anxiety.

When this happens, the behavior goes overlooked, uncorrected, or untreated, and problems simply get worse. Dog owners need to instead realize that a dog’s negative or sudden change in behavior is often their way of letting you know something is wrong.

Dogs really are amazing creatures. They have an amazing similarity to humans which makes the connection between man and dog a lot deeper than with other pets. Be that as it may, your pup isn’t a human. Trying to treat them as such might seem harmless but in reality, it could backfire. Whether it’s researching CBD oil for dogs, feeding them organic dog food, or giving them the attention they need to overcome anxiety, you can show your dog the best love and appreciation by caring for them in a way that is best for their well-being.
