Mr. Bejelly LOVES cold brew Coffee.  Ever since I discovered that I can not drink coffee because it makes crazy as a loon, I’ve tried my best to put it out of my head (and forget how my taste buds thrilled in it’s dark bitter brew).

Anyhow, I knew I was going to figure out how to make this for him since he was drinking it like it was going out of stock.

At first, I thought I would have to an espresso machine, so I spent a day searching for the best home espresso machine under $1000 and luckily, I found out that I didn’t need one and instead I just needed a good French press.

Good thing that it’s super easy to do.

  1. Kelly – you never mention when to press and pour off. I’m assuming from your photos that you let it set for up to 36 hours (in fridge or on counter?) and THEN press, pour into the mason jar for use. Just clarifying! Fantastic photos!

  2. I’ve been making this for a few years now. Much less acid in the cold brewed coffee which is easier on my bladder. I grind mine very coarse and usually go with a 4 to 1 ratio or 6 to 1 if the beans have a strong flavor.. The ultimate I’ve seen is Kyoto coffee which is also cold brewed but they make it 1 drop at a time.

  3. That coffee looks waaaaay too finely ground for a French press!! Try using a coarser grind if you don’t like muddy sludge at the bottom of your coffee. 🙂 (Usually for this you’ll have to buy whole beans; pre-ground beans are usually ground more finely for drip machines, and aren’t really suitable for a French press unless you enjoy the aforementioned sludge.)
