The growing demands of modern-day families and the increased advancements in technology have prompted many women to start a business. It’s an opportunity to be there for your kids when they need you most while contributing financially to the household. With so many ways to become an entrepreneur and live comfortably, it seems like the best option for women that struggle with work-life balance.

As advantageous as becoming a mom boss sounds, it doesn’t come without some obstacles. At the top of the list are loneliness and social isolation. You give up the daily chatter and in-person connections with coworkers for a quiet workspace in your home. Being alone may not bother you initially, but after several weeks, months, or years, it takes a toll on your mental health. How do you fix the problem without going back to your 9 to 5? Continue reading for some suggestions.

Get To Know Your Neighbors

If you were to research how to make new friends in a new city, one of the suggestions would be to get acquainted with your neighbors. The same concept works for moms that work from home. As starting businesses continues to trend, chances are a few people in your neighborhood that work from home as well.

You can invite them over for lunch, visit their home, or plan activities you can do together when you’re not working. Since you’re both entrepreneurs, you should have no issues finding things to discuss.

Go To The Gym

Going to the gym is an effective way to kill two birds with one stone. You can get your required fitness in while mixing and mingling with others. Again, with more people working remotely or owning a business, gym members will be present no matter what time you visit. You can exchange health and fitness tips, participate in workout classes, or support each other as you try to reach your goals.

Help Out At School

Schools are always in need of parents who can dedicate their time and resources to enhancing their students’ learning experience. Volunteer your time for a few hours a week to your child’s school. You can join the PTO/PTA, read to the class, tutor, or assist administrators in developing and managing programs for students. Along the way, you’re bound to meet parents that you can talk to and cultivate a lasting relationship with.

Video Conferencing Software

Although not as personal as in-person meetings, mom bosses can combat loneliness by using video conferencing software. You can connect with people from virtually anywhere and strike up a conversation. You can reach out to your mom, old co-workers, friends, clients, and others. The best part is that you can do plenty of activities together like watching movies, sharing a meal, or playing games.

Schedule Girl’s Time

Socializing with your best friends is one of the best ways to combat loneliness. You guys are already close and have shared experiences, making your time together more meaningful. Be that as it may, when you’re at home, your friends are at work. So, it leaves little time to socialize and have a good time.

The most practical solution would be to start penciling girl’s time into your schedule. Whether it’s every other weekend or once a month, meeting up with your girls can fill the void. You can go to brunch, shopping, dancing, or even plan a mini-vacation so you can all get a much-needed break.
When your job gets in the way of being there for your kids, becoming a mom boss is a feasible option. It enables you to bring home the bacon while still being there for your children. Be that as it may, working for yourself gets lonely. Eventually, you feel isolated, sad, and depressed, slowing your productivity, dampening your mood, and impacting your health. Fortunately, solutions like those listed above help you beat loneliness and find balance in your social life.
