Paleo Sex in a Pan

Sex in a pan; it’s a crazy name for a dessert and no one’s really sure where the name comes from, but it is a really delicious dish that is great for any occasion.  Traditionally it’s made with six layers: a pecan and flour crust, a cream cheese layer, instant vanilla pudding, instant chocolate pudding, whipped cream, and shaved chocolate.  It’s truly decadent.

This paleo-fied version is just as amazing, without the need for grains, refined sugar, dairy, or anything instant or packaged.  My family could not believe it was dairy-free; and asked me to make it again soon!

Another awesome thing about this recipe is that it’s full of healthy fats from coconut milk, coconut oil, avocado, and dark chocolate.  It’s quite a satisfying dessert and a great way to end any meal.

Whatever you call this dessert, be sure to make this Paleo version; the flaky pecan crust, creamy “cheese” and chocolate layers, and whipped coconut cream are just as scrumptious as the original!

"Cream Cheese" Layer:

Vanilla Layer:

Chocolate Layer:

Cream layer:

  • 1/2 cup coconut cream or heavy whipping cream whipped


  • Shaved dark chocolate



  1. In a mixing bowl, combine all crust ingredients and mix well.
  2. Press into the the bottom of an 8"x8" glass baking dish and pop in the freezer while you prepare the next layer.

"Cream Cheese" Layer:

  1. Combine all the "cream cheese" layer ingredients in a mixing bowl and mix well. Spread over the crust.
  2. Put the pan back in the freezer.

Vanilla layer:

  1. Combine all vanilla layer ingredients in a mixing bowl and mix well. Spread over "Cream Cheese" layer.
  2. Put the pan back in the freezer.

Chocolate layer:

  1. Combine all chocolate layer ingredients in a food processor and process until very smooth.
  2. Carefully spread over vanilla layer; place pan back in freezer.

Cream Layer:

  1. Whip the cream; spread over chocolate layer in pan.


  1. Top liberally with shaved dark chocolate.
  2. Chill in the fridge for a few hours or overnight before serving.

It’s cinnamon season.  Well technically cinnamon season should be all the time because cinnamon is so delicious, but why not eat a little more of it during the cold winter months?

While yummy things like cinnamon and raisins are often put in desserts, it’s just as easy to incorporate them into healthy desserts! This recipe came about because I love cinnamon, raisins, and banana bread.  But sometimes I’m so busy that all I have time to grab in the afternoon is a snack bar… so why not put them all into one delicious thing? Yeah, I don’t see why not either 😉

These simple bars are a bit like the granola bars I remember from my childhood, but they are a bit softer; less crunchy (so they won’t crumble everywhere so easily!).

It’s so simple to put together healthy snacks that taste delicious without the use of grains.  Have fun with these bars and feel free to use whatever seeds you like in this.  You can swap the raisins out for cranberries or whatever dried fruit you like.  You can also add almonds or cashews and the like, but just remember that this recipe won’t be free of tree nuts, then.

  1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees F and grease an 8"x8" glass baking dish with a little bit of coconut oil.
  2. In a mixing bowl, mash the bananas and mix in the coconut sugar, coconut oil, and egg.
  3. Stir in the coconut flakes, pumpkin seeds, sunflower seeds, raisins, chia seeds, cinnamon, and vanilla.
  4. Add coconut flour until the mixture comes together.
  5. Press into the prepared baking dish. Bake for 20 minutes.
  6. Let cool and cut into bars.
