We sometimes, as a result of our health, need to make changes in our diet to make sure that we are eating the healthiest foods and products that we can eat. Additionally, sometimes that means cutting sugar almost or completely out to keep our blood sugar at good levels. Thankfully, we have several options out there to get a little bit of that sweet back. In this post, I have listed for you 10 sugar substitutes that you can use in your every day life. Enjoy!
Stevia
This commonly known sweetener is best in its liquid form. It has no calories, vitamins or other nutrients which makes it the best option to add to your morning tea for a little sweet.
Erythritol
Used in smaller servings, Erythritol is a natural sugar alcohol that is found in our fruits and vegetables. It has no calories, and is one of the better products to use in low carb cooking.
Monk Fruit Powder
This sweetener is 300 times sweeter than sugar and has been used in Chinese medicine for many years, no wonder it is the longevity fruit, and as a bonus, this product has no aftertaste, so all you will be tasting is its sweetness.
Chicory Root Inulin
This Chicory Inulin based product is a great substitute containing vitamin C, and calcium. This product however should not be used in baking, but it is good to sweeten everything else.
Yacon Syrup
Made similar to maple syrup, yacon syrup is high in antioxidants and potassium. It also has a taste close to caramel. However, it is not best used in baking. You could instead put it on your yogurt, or your morning smoothie.
Freeze Dried Berry Powder
This is a great nutritious natural sweetener that is good to add to smoothies, yogurt and baked goods.
Lucuma Powder
From the countries of Peru, Chile, and Ecuador, this powder is a product of Egg Fruit, that has a taste similar to mango and apricots. It is a fabulous substitute if you want a less sweet taste in your smoothies or baked goods.
Dark Chocolate (75% or more Cacao)
Dark chocolate is great if you want a little bit of sweet and bitter in your food, and it must be as dark as it comes (75% or more is recommended.) Add the chocolate to your breakfast, baking, or your yogurt.
Organic Maple Syrup
Used in moderation, this evaporated maple tree sap has some amazing health benefits. For example, it is high in magnesium and zinc which helps with maintaining the immune system, as well as is rich in calcium and vitamins A + B. You can put it on anything from your yogurt to your morning smoothies to give your food a little zing.
Fresh Fruit Juices
Fresh fruit and fruit juices, like raspberries and strawberries, are great alternatives to sweeten up your yogurt or smoothies.
