Nolah is one of the top mattress brands, with Nolah Evolution taking the market by storm. But what about other Nolah mattresses? In August 2021, Nolah came out with the Nolah Natural 11 mattress. Its hybrid design and natural construction are certainly intriguing. Read more in our Nolah Mattress Reviews.
But let us give you a detailed and honest review of the mattress so that you can make an informed decision about it.
Nolah Natural 11 Review: Short Answer
The Nolah Natural 11 mattress is 11 inches of natural, recycled materials. We’re talking a 2-inch Talalay comfort layer and a 1-inch Talalay transition layer. Accordingly, the mattress is mold resistant, dust mite resistant, and hypoallergenic. Its cotton makes it a luxurious and comfortable mattress as well.
With natural Talalay and tri-zoned coils, the fiberglass free mattress is excellent for stomach sleepers, back sleepers, and side sleepers. It isn’t as supportive of edge sleepers, though.
Pros:
- Made of natural, recycled materials
- Mold resistant, dust mite resistant, and hypoallergenic
- An Incredibly comfortable mattress
- Natural Talalay and tri-zoned coils are great for front sleepers, back sleepers, and side sleepers
Cons:
- Not ideal for edge sleepers
Mattress Performance
This wouldn’t be a Nolah mattress review if we didn’t evaluate how well the Nolah mattress performed in different aspects that mattress experts deem relevant.
Firmness
The Nolah mattress is a luxury firm one. It’s a mattress with a medium firm feel. Nolah gives it a 6.5 out of 10 on the firmness scale, 1 being incredibly soft and 10 being extremely hard. So you’ll find it a relatively soft and adaptive mattress for a medium firm mattress.
Despite being medium firm, the Talalay mattress is a firmer mattress than most or all foam mattresses. Accordingly, it’s an incredibly supportive mattress with some bounce. So, it isn’t exactly soft or medium soft.
If you’re slim, you’ll sleep comfortably on the mattress. Medium-sized and athletic people will find the mattress moderately firm, offering them good pressure relief. Otherwise, if you have a soft build, the mattress might be less firm with more pressure relief.
Pressure Relief
Thanks to the top latex layer, the mattress offers great pressure relief. The comfort layer appeals to your body curves, distributing your body weight evenly over the mattress surface. And the coils are tri-zoned for additional pain relief.
With such excellent pressure relief, this is one of the best mattresses to target pressure points, releasing shoulder and back pain and pressure buildup in the hips, shoulders, and joints. This way, you can relax your muscles. Also, you can appreciate the superior pressure relief of the mattress whether you sleep on your back, stomach, or side.
Temperature Control
The Nolah Natural 11 is highly effective in monitoring body heat, rendering it ideal for hot sleepers. That’s because of its GOTS certified organic wool layer, which has temperature and humidity regulation features. In other words, it can trap heat and evaporate it. Moreover, the temperature-neutral mattress’s cover is made of organic cotton.
Not to mention, the 8 inches of coil make way for air circulation through the mattress, and so do the pinholes in the Talalay latex. Speaking of the Talalay latex, it’s a much more breathable material than polyurethane, which is sometimes used in mattresses.
What that means for you is that your excess body heat is transferred to the breathable mattress. Then, it reduces your body’s moisture and humidity, has a cooling effect, and invites fresh air. So, you won’t have to sleep hot anymore.
Motion Isolation
The mattress’s wool layer and 8 inches of individually wrapped and pocketed coils give it good motion isolation. So, it’s an excellent mattress for couples, as both partners can sleep without being disrupted by the other’s movement.
Still, there are other mattresses with better motion isolation. Unfortunately, topping them isn’t possible without compromising its bouncy and responsive nature. Thankfully, its motion transfer isn’t an issue for most couples. Unless you or your partner are particularly light sleepers, you’ll find the mattress’s motion transfer isolation satisfactory.
Sound Isolation
If you find spring mattresses annoying, you’re in luck. As we’ve said in this Nolah mattress review, the coils are individually wrapped, so there’ll be no squeaking with every move.
Still, Nolah Natural 11 is a bouncy and responsive mattress, meaning that it might not be entirely quiet, unlike some hybrid models. So, if you’re ultra-sensitive to sounds, a memory foam mattress without springs might be best.
Edge Support
When it comes to edge support, the Nolah Natural 11 features a coil layer with a reinforced perimeter. In other words, the average sleeper will find that the mattress doesn’t sink in when they sleep close to the sides, so they won’t feel as if they were falling.
Nevertheless, the edge support could be better. This average edge support may be a problem for people over 230 lbs, as it may not support them adequately and sink it a bit.
Sleep Positions
With Talalay latex, the mattress is highly responsive, supportive, and contouring any body type and sleeping positions to give you the best sleep experience. Accordingly, you can change positions without sinking in too much.
Of course, you might wonder which sleeping positions the mattress is most supportive of. We’d say that back sleepers will probably love this Nolah mattress the most. The latex foam and zoned support give it great pressure relief, ensuring hip and spinal alignment and preventing high pressure.
Moreover, the latex foam mattress is a good match for side sleepers and stomach sleepers. For one, side sleepers can sleep comfortably, as the Talalay latex and softer cells relieve pressure in your shoulders and keep your hips aligned. As for stomach sleepers, the mattress features firmer coils in the center to support your hips and relieve your lower back from pain.
Since this is arguably the best mattress for stomach sleepers, side sleepers, and back sleepers, it follows that it’s supportive of couples who happen to have different sleeper types and combination sleepers. After all, combo sleepers can change positions comfortably.
Where standard memory foam takes several minutes to contour around your body, Talalay latex responds fast and doesn’t let you sink in.
Allergy Control
Another aspect where Nolah Natural excels is allergy control. So, if you’re a sensitive sleeper, you don’t need to worry about suffering any flare-ups. The mattress is hypoallergenic, mold-resistant, and dust-mite resistant. Its GOTS and OEKO-TEX certifications testify for its hypoallergenic components.
If you have eczema, asthma, hay fever, sensitive skin, or other conditions that don’t mix well with chemicals and allergens, you can rest assured that the mattress doesn’t contain synthetic materials. Instead, it’s made of natural latex and organic cotton and wool.
Off-Gassing
Without nearly any synthetic components, the Nolah Natural 11 mattress produces very minimal off-gassing. It does contain a coil liner, but that’s such a thin layer of woven polyester that it could hardly cause significant off-gassing.
Also, a conventional foam mattress typically features a flame barrier that emits VOCs (Volatile Organic Compounds). But the Nolah mattress features metal coils and nylon threads, which are natural so that they won’t off-gas any VOCs.
Composition
The Nolah Natural 11 consists of 7 layers, and they are:
- An Organic Cotton Cover: GOTS certified and soft cotton top layer
- An Organic Wool Batting: GOTS certified flame barrier
- A 2-Inch Talalay Comfort Layer: a medium plush surface for comfort and pressure relief
- 1-Inch Talalay Latex: Firmer latex than the previous foam layers for support
- HDMax ™️ Tri-Zone™️ Coil Layer: 3 zones of 8-inch coils for pressure relief and motion transfer isolation
- Organic Cotton/ Wool Bottom Layer: GOTS Certified latex for durability and stability
- Organic Cotton Bottom and Sides: Extra durable cotton for the base layer
Hybridity
What makes Nolah Natural 11 a hybrid mattress is the combination of bounce or responsiveness and support. The former is typically found in foam layers, while the latter is found in springs. In other words, hybrid mattresses have both foam and spring coils. In our case, the foam used is natural Talalay latex.
By combining foam firmness and feel, you create a mattress that caters to couples with different sleep styles and combo sleepers. After all, the added bounce facilitates switching sleeping positions.
But more than that, hybrid mattresses are more breathable, accommodate stomach sleepers, back sleepers, and side sleepers, and last long. Moreover, they offer more support than traditional memory foam mattresses and latex, thus better bearing weight than a synthetic memory foam mattress.
Durability
Thanks to its construction, we have an incredibly durable mattress on our hands. To illustrate, it contains an organic wool batting layer, certified by the GOTS. Such support layers separate the coils from the cotton cover of the top layer, protecting the latter from any damage inflicted by the springs. In that sense, the wool layer makes the latex mattress a high resilience foam one.
Speaking of organic cotton, the cotton is durable too. It’s used in the bottom and sides of the Nolah Natural 11 to keep its components aligned. In addition, those organic wool and cotton are used instead of the high-density foam that most or all foam mattresses use.
As for the main component in this good mattress, the Talalay latex comfort layer offers more durability than a synthetic polyurethane foam mattress. Not to mention, the 8-inch layer of tri-zone support coils helps add more durability and support for pressure relief and spinal alignment.
You might wonder what excellent durability means for you. We’d say that it reduces the chance of the mattress sagging or developing indentations. In other words, you won’t have to deal with any wear and tear for a long time. We’re talking an average of 6 to 8 years of use, perhaps even more!
Sustainability
If you want to make an ethical purchase, let’s see how well this Nolah mattress qualifies. Its latex is extracted using the Talalay method. The main ingredient in this latex is the pure sap of the Hevea Brasiliensis Rubber Tree.
But rest assured that cutting into the tree’s bank doesn’t kill or damage the tree. In fact, the plantation rubber tree can be productive for up to 25 years (with proper care). Sometimes, the tree is cut after its productive life ends. Then, it may fuel the latex in the baking process.
According to the Rain Forest Alliance, the latex’s construction is in accordance with sustainable forest and business practices at rubber plantations.
Of course, the cotton, wool, and Talalay latex featured in the hybrid mattress are biodegradable materials. So, you aren’t contributing to the making of materials that can’t decompose (after the mattress’s lifespan ends).
Environmental Friendliness
The GOTS certifications ensure that the cotton and wool are environmentally friendly. That’s because they aren’t treated with dangerous chemicals that could harm the environment.
As we’ve mentioned, the mattress doesn’t contain polyester fiber, which manufacturers treat with fire retardant chemicals. Instead, it features organic wool, which is also a fire retardant. This way, you don’t have to worry about off-gassing. Moreover, the Nolah mattress is certified by OEKO-TEX, which entails that it won’t emit harmful chemicals or VOCs.
Nevertheless, the layer of 8-inch coils isn’t organic or plant based. That’s the case for most natural latex mattresses, though. Also, the coils and wrapping are nothing compared to the hybrid mattress’s organic and plant-based fabric and components.
Maintenance
You should know that you can’t remove the mattress cover. So, we’d recommend using a mattress protector. This way, no stain will seep through the mattress fabric. However, if you don’t add it, you can still clean your mattress.
Just be sure to tend to it fast, and spot clean it with water, a cloth, and mild detergent. Use a blotting (rather than rubbing) technique to remove the stain effectively.
Sizing
The Nolah Natural 11 mattress is available as a queen mattress. Its exact size dimensions are 60″ X80″ X11″. But you can also find it in other sizes.
- Twin: 38″ x75″ x11″
- Twin XL: 38″ x80″ x11″
- Full: 54″ x75″ x11″
- King: 76″ x80″ x11″
- Cal King: 72″ x84″ x11″
Lifetime Warranty
You’ll be glad to hear that the Nolah Natural 11 is accompanied with a lifetime warranty. So, if your Nolah mattress has manufacturing defects or flaws, Nolah will repair it or replace it (at its own discretion). These faults can be body impressions over 1.5 inches.
Of course, if the lifetime warranty tells us anything about the Nolah mattress, it’s that the product is genuinely everything that it’s made out to be.
120 Night Sleep Trial
Nolah allows you a 120-night sleep trial when purchasing the Natural 11 mattress. After that, you’d have to complete a 30-day break-in period, which you can use to get used to the feel of the mattress.
This sleep trial is helpful if you’re switching from traditional all foam mattress designs to latex Nolah mattresses. Typically, your body might require 3 to 4 weeks to get accustomed to the new mattress.
Pricing
Actual Cost
It wouldn’t be a Nolah mattress review without discussing pricing. The Nolah Natural 11 is a great value for money. When you compare it to other latex memory foam mattresses of the same thickness and size, it’s well-priced! Still, we can’t deny that the mattress is more expensive than regular polyurethane mattresses.
This price difference is only normal because natural components cost more than synthetic ones. After all, natural Talalay latex is very pricey with a demanding manufacturing process. If anything, it’s surprising that the mattress isn’t more expensive than it is.
Not to mention, the Nolah mattress is an investment for a couple of reasons. Firstly, it’s highly durable. So, you won’t wear it out fast, and it’ll outlive other cheaper mattresses. Secondly, it’s an investment in your health with natural ingredients that won’t irritate your skin or trigger your allergies.
Discounts
You can get a discount by giving up the 120-day trial period. If you’re confident that this Nolah mattress is the one for you, you can waive the sleep trial period to save $150!
We recommend doing so for lightweight sleepers and average weight sleepers. However, heavyweight sleepers, specifically heavy weight side sleepers, might be taking a risk waiving the trial because they can’t be too sure if the mattress’s edge support will be enough for them.
By all means, mattress manufacturers don’t make such offers, so that’s an opportunity that you may not want to miss out on!
Additional Costs
When we say additional costs, we’re referring to shipping costs (among others), and there are none! Luckily, you can order the Nolah Natural 11, and it’ll be shipped to your door for free.
If you’re willing to spare an extra $125, you can get Nolah to remove your old mattress and set up the new Nolah mattress. This mattress removal may be called white glove delivery. So, if you can’t do the heavy lifting or don’t have the time for it, consider booking this additional delivery service.
What’s in the Box?
You’re ordering a “bed in a box” mattress. So, what should you expect? The mattress will arrive compressed, wrapped, and rolled inside a sturdy cardboard shipping box. Also, the compression and rolling of the mattress won’t damage it; after all, it isn’t a memory foam Nolah mattress.
When you roll out your mattress, you can remove the outer wrapping and cut through the inner wrapping. Do it carefully to avoid damaging the mattress in the process.
Frequently Asked Questions
How Long Has Nolah Mattress Been in Business?
Nolah Mattress was launched in 2015, so that gives it roughly 7 years in the business. Despite being relatively new in the mattress industry, the online bed-in-a-box company has made a name for itself, with Nolah mattresses dominating the market.
Is Nolah Mattress Toxic?
No, Nolah Natural is non-toxic and organic. It features organic wool and cotton for the top and base layer and Talalay latex. To demonstrate, GOTS has certified the mattress’s cotton, and OEKO-TEX has certified the entire mattress. In other words, you can be sure it won’t emit VOCs or harmful chemicals.
Does the Nolah Mattress Come in a Box?
Nolah Mattress is a bed-in-a-box brand, so the online mattresses come in boxes, wrapped, compressed, and rolled. And the compression of the mattress won’t damage it or cause it to bend.
Can You Flip Nolah Mattress?
Unfortunately, Nolah Natural 11 isn’t a flippable mattress. That does entail a shorter lifespan because you can’t flip the mattress over on an undamaged side after the other side suffers some wear and tear. But the outstanding durability should serve as a consolation because the mattress will still last some time.
Do I Need a Box Spring or Foundation?
No, you don’t need specific bed frames. You can easily set up your Nolah Natural 11 mattress on any firm flat surface or with any bed frames. To illustrate, you can place it on a solid platform, a regular softbox spring with a Bunkie board on top, a solid box spring or foundation, an adjustable base, or a slatted base with slats (not over 4″ apart).
Bottom Line
Overall, Nolah Natural 11 Mattress is a solid hybrid model. It balances support with bounce and responsiveness. By investing in such responsive mattresses, the user sleeps cool. Additionally, the mattress can reduce back pain, shoulders pains, and high pressure, isolate movement, and support you, whether you’re a side sleeper, front sleeper, back sleeper, or combination sleeper.
If you’re suffering from allergies, this organic, hypoallergenic mattress won’t trigger them. It’s also a good sustainable option with biodegradable materials. Not to mention, it’ll last you a while. So, there’s little reason not to get your hands on this Nolah mattress as soon as possible!
