What is a Lactation Smoothie? When it comes to milk supply and milk production, it’s crucial to make sure that breastfeeding moms do what it takes to make sure that their milk supply stays good.

But sometimes, you’ll need to think of ways to boost milk supply so that you can produce milk for your growing baby and also for freezing and use later.

Every breastfeeding mom knows the importance of making more milk and having a good milk supply, but what happens when nursing moms start to notice that their milk supply is running low?

The good news is that there are ways to make more milk and increase your breast milk supply!

What foods stimulate lactation?

If you want to boost your milk supply, you need to turn your attention to eating foods with high protein. To increase milk supply, Greek yogurt, eggs, and even tofu are all foods that might be considered milk boosting foods.

What foods should moms avoid when breastfeeding?

It’s also important to take note that when boosting milk supply, there are foods that you shouldn’t consume. Caffeine, alcohol, certain fishes, and foods that are processed should all be avoided if possible.

How can I increase my breast milk naturally?

Breastfeeding mothers can increase their breast milk naturally with a few simple tips. Many breastfeeding moms may turn to the option of pumping and breastfeeding more often to make more milk, while others may decide that a lactation smoothie might be the best option.

If you’re looking for a way to help with breast milk production, lactation smoothie recipes may be the perfect way to make that happen!

Lactation Smoothie Recipe Ingredients

You’ll find that making this delicious lactation smoothie isn’t hard to do at all. The simple ingredients below are all that you’ll need!

How to make Lactation Smoothies

Blend all ingredients together until smooth in your blender. For a frozen treat, add 1 cup of ice and blend again. Drink immediately.

Variations

Use a different nut butter – You can use almond butter, sun butter, peanut butter, or any type of nut butter for this recipe.

Add frozen fruit – If you want to sweeten it or if you find that it has a bitter taste, you can add frozen banana, frozen mango, frozen blueberries, or anything else to this lactation smoothie. (a banana lactation smoothie sounds really good!)

Add leafy greens – If you want to add a helping of health, add veggies or leafy greens to the mixture. You’ll want to blend it in a high speed blender with the other remaining ingredients to keep that smoothie texture.

How to Store

With minimal prep time, I really recommend making this and enjoying it fresh. (or freeze it for later)

Once you blend, you’re able to serve immediately so that you can hopefully increase your milk supply fast.

Tips for making Breastfeeding Smoothies

  • If you want to keep this dairy free, you can. You can still get the creamy texture with almond milk. (and you can always add more milk if needed)
  • To make this gluten free, make sure that you’re using the right type of oats. Read the label if you have questions.
  • Make sure that you use a high powered blender so that you can make the smoothie nice and creamy. If you need to thin it out as you’re blending it, add milk.

Can I freeze lactation smoothies?

You can make lactation smoothie freezer packs easily by adding the smoothie to a freezer safe bag. You can also freeze the smoothie into ice cubes so that you can enjoy them later and add them to your glass to thaw or mix with other drinks.

Does water increase breast milk?

You might hear this as a suggestion, but there isn’t actually any proof that this holds the truth. What is important is that you take care of yourself and stay hydrated when you’re breastfeeding so that you keep your health and energy up.

How long does the breast take to replenish milk?

The human body is an amazing thing. The body will actually work quickly to replenish the milk! Moms will be able to replenish their breast milk in about 30 minutes! (although the flow levels will be varied)

Are breasts ever empty of milk?

Probably not. It may feel like it from time to time, but they’re not ever out of milk completely. This is where it’s important to pump, drink smoothies, and eat the right foods – so that you’ll never feel that worried that you’re low on milk.

If you feel overly worried, additional protein in your diet is never a bad idea. You can always create more recipes to make a lactation smoothie that works best for you and your needs.

Adding Molasses to a Lactation Smoothie

Should I add protein powder to my lactation smoothie recipe?

If you can add high protein foods, that would be a better option, in my opinion. That way, you’re getting other vitamins and essential fatty acids, vitamin c, and more.

A lot of moms also start getting the urge to get their pre-baby body back but keep your eye on the breastfeeding prize. It’s understandable that you want to lose weight, but cutting calories will end up hurting your milk supply.

Fewer calories are not your goal when you want to make enough breast milk. Let the health benefits of lactation smoothies guide you and fuel your body.

You’ll notice that once you get in a good flow of pumping and breastfeeding, you’ll find yourself in a really good place for balancing feedings and more.

Use this lactation smoothie recipe as a way to increase your milk production while also fueling your body. Breastfeeding moms will love having this in their back pocket, knowing that it’s beneficial for them and for baby as well!
