To truly be called Blue Mountain, the coffee must be grown at elevations between 910 and 1,700 meters. This is what alters the air quality and humidity, to give the coffee and the earth it is grown in the perfect properties to result in such a fantastic coffee experience.
This is a small country in the heart of Central America with the perfect microclimates for growing coffee. The producers that work here use wet processing in many cases, but also experiment with honey. Some of the best coffee in this country comes from Copan, and has a sweet aroma with caramel, citrus, and coffee tones. It’s a beautiful blend that also benefits from a gloriously velvety texture.
Ask where the best coffee in the world comes from and many people will either say Jamaica or Costa Rica. Costa Rica’s prime real estate for growing coffee is Terrazu, which is responsible for 35% of all coffee grown in the country. The beans that come from Naranjo however have won multiple awards for their strong and distinctive flavour.
Guatemala has a particularly unique climate that is ideal for coffee production. The volcanic soil meanwhile helps to provide a truly interesting flavour profile. But the area is vastly varied with distinct flavors coming from differing regions – whether it’s the rainforests, the mountains, or the volcanic regions.
Columbia is also extremely well known for producing some of the best coffee in the world. The country has two coffee harvesting seasons, which also makes it one of the best coffee growing regions in terms of output. What’s also unique here is that the producers handle the harvest, process, and drying themselves – rather than exporting the coffee to the mill. These are just a few of the best regions for tasting coffee.
