One of our everyday duties involves decluttering and cleaning the house. Somehow, this is one task that will always have to be done. However, you cannot dispute the satisfying feeling you get once a room or house is clean. Apart from that satisfying feeling, cleaning and tidying affect your health as well. If you need more motivating reasons to declutter and clean up, here is how tidying up impacts your health.

A Clean Environment Promotes Better Relationships

One of the most common fights among people sharing spaces is about cleanliness. Toys all over the house, dirty dishes, untidy bedrooms, hair on the bathtub, and many other issues can bring up conflict, affecting one’s mental health. Try and come up with a cleaning schedule so that everyone plays their part. For instance, assign them that task if your kids are old enough to pick up their toys and clean them. Emphasize the importance of cleanliness and how it affects your health. Some germs can live on dry surfaces like toys for a few hours, and on moist surfaces like sinks and bathrooms, for about three days. When you put convincing points like this to your family, everyone will understand what they need to do, which prevents conflicts about cleanliness.

You Will Be Productive

When you are faced with complicated tasks, it is easy for you to find a distraction that leads to procrastination. It is easy to find one or even multiple things in a disorganized space that will distract you from your initial task. However, it is easy for the mind to focus and get things done when you have an organized room. This increases your productivity and output, which generally makes you happy and reduces stress.

Reduce chances of Getting Sick

When you have a clean home, you reduce the number of places that bacteria or germs can hide. In addition, dusty bedding, upholstery, and carpets can worsen allergies and asthma. If you want you and your family members to remain healthy, you should all be proactive in keeping the house clean. Furthermore, medical expenses are costly. According to HCUP, the average stay at a hospital in the United States is about $10,700. This is a lot of money that you can spend on something else like going for a road trip with family and friends or doing a minor home renovation. Either way, by maintaining cleanliness, you are taking care of your health and saving on costs.

Improved Quality of Sleep

According to a survey done by the National Sleep Foundation, people who make their bed in the morning are likely to get a good night’s sleep. On the other hand, people sleeping in clean beddings are also likely to enjoy their sleep. When you sleep well, there is little chance of you being grumpy in the morning. Also, you are likely to be productive the following day.

Take Care of Yard and Garden Cautiously

Most people spend a lot of time and money on their lawns and gardens to ensure their home looks great. Not only that, but nature has been known to reduce anxiety and stress, promoting one’s mental health. One way of taking care of your yard is by eliminating pests and weeds. Weeds can turn out to be a huge nuisance. In fact, if left uncontrolled, some, like perennial weeds, which can live for more than two years, can frustrate you. One of the options to get rid of them is using herbicides. However, you also need to be careful about how you use it, as too much of it can be a health hazard, especially if your kids play there. Take care of your lawn in a way that does not put your health in danger but still manages to eliminate unwanted pests and weeds.

Maintaining cleanliness in the home does not have to feel like an overwhelming task, especially if you involve everyone in the house. However, it is key to promoting your physical and mental wellbeing, ensuring you are healthy and can focus on other things.
