Working from home can have a lot of great benefits. However, it can also throw off your previous routine, including any healthy habits you built up while working outside of the home. You might find that you move a lot less than you did while commuting. Luckily, there are a few ways to keep health and wellness up as you work from home. Here are some tips to get you started.

Use the 20-20-20 Rule

If you’re working from home, you’re probably spending a lot of time looking at your computer screen. There are approximately 1.8 billion websites operating around the world at any given time, and some of them are essential to your work. This can have a negative impact on your health, causing eye strain and other issues. If you want to prevent eye strain, use the 20-20-20 rule as you work. Every 20 minutes, look away from your computer screen or phone. Find something that is 20 feet away and focus your gaze on it for 20 seconds. This will help you to move your eyes in different ways, giving the muscles a break. Now, when you look back at your computer, your eyes will feel less strained than before.

Have a Designated Home Office

When working from home, it can be difficult to separate your work and home life. However, having those breaks and that separation is very important to your health. You need to be able to step away from work and decompress. Otherwise, your health might suffer. You also need to be able to focus while you’re working. A designated home office is a great way to get that separation you need. Your computer, printer, and paperwork can all be contained to this one room. This can also be a good place to store a solid state drive, which uses flash memory and is more durable and superior to other equipment. If this is all in your office, you’ll connect this room with work and keep that mentality when you’re in there. Then, when you leave your office, the work won’t follow you out.

Take Time to Move Around

While the lack of a commute can be very convenient, working from home means you risk becoming very sedentary. Sitting in front of your computer all day can have a negative impact on your health, so it is very important that you move around. Schedule breaks into your day where you can take a walk or get some exercise. You can even make a point of standing up and stretching every 20 minutes or so. These movements all add up, helping you to avoid some of the impacts of a sedentary lifestyle as you work from home.

Keep Healthy Foods at Home

Since you’re working from home, you’ll also be eating at home as well. While this can help reduce the temptation to get takeout, it can still lead to bad food habits. Make sure that you have healthy options available all the time. This way, when you want a snack as you work, you can grab carrot sticks instead of chips. You can also plan your lunches ahead of time, just like you would in an office. If you always have delicious, healthy options on hand, it makes it very simple to eat well as you work.Working from home does not mean you need to give up all of your healthy habits from the office. With some planning ahead, you can make your home office just as healthy, or even healthier. Take these tips and make them a habit each day, then you’ll see how easy it can be to improve your health as you work from home.
