Trying to get kids to eat their veggies is like trying to pull teeth once they get to a certain age. Sure, when they’re at the tender age of 1 or 2, you can mash up any veggie and they’ll gum it down because they are so ecstatic to be eating solid food. If we fast forward to age 4 or 5––the real fight begins! You feel like you’re in the kitchen all day trying to cook a meal that will please your picky child. Your back hurts, and your legs are growing weary from standing in the kitchen and cooking meals that they just leave sitting on the table. This is enough to test any person’s patience, but don’t fret my friend, just keep some high-quality CBD capsules in arm’s reach and check out some of these ideas that’ll trick even the “smartest” kid into eating their veggies! All you’re going to need is some creativity and a blender to come up with ways to infiltrate their favorite dishes, but you can start with these ideas to get the ball rolling.
Mac N Cheese With Butternut Squash Cheese Sauce
This recipe is “borrowed” from an indoor playground that charges astronomical prices to provide healthy food options for your kids while they bounce from wall to wall, which is annoying because sometimes you might not be able to get them to sit down long enough to eat!
You’re going to make this recipe just like any other macaroni and cheese you’ve made before! The only different is that you’re going to saute some butternut squash and then throw it in the blender so you can add it to the cheese mixture. This recipe will trick even the pickiest kid because what kid doesn’t like mac n cheese? Honestly, you’ll probably end up having a bowl too!
A Pizza You Won’t Mind Them Eating
We’ve landed on another kid favorite that you can sneak some veggies into. The great part about this is that you can get as creative as you’d like with the combination of veggies you choose. All you have to do is sautee those veggies and then….you guessed it….blend them right on up until they’re nice and smooth. You need to make sure the sauce is smooth because kids are experts at finding any little piece of vegetable hiding anywhere, and then, the jig is up! Oh, and the nice part about this is that you can save the extra sauce and use it for pasta or any other recipe idea that comes to mind!
The Power Of Cauliflower
Some would say that cauliflower is making a comeback. It’s being used quite frequently to cut carbs and add nutrition to some of our favorite foods like cauliflower rice, mash, and much more. For our kiddos, you can take cauliflower and make an incognito pizza crust that they will love! Pair this with the veggie pizza sauce we just mentioned and you’re on a roll! You can actually buy cauliflower pizza crust at your local grocery store, and some of your favorite pizza places are even offering it now as well. If you need to make it at home all you’ll need is a head of cauliflower, eggs, cheese, and whatever spices you want to include. It’ll take a little bit of time, but what great things don’t?
Parmesan Kale Chips
Want to know a little secret? You can rename foods to make them more appealing to kids––like kale “chips”. If you’ve got a kid who despises anything green, this is just for you! It’s super easy to make and nutritious. You just need to cook it to the point that it crunches like a chip, and then toss it in some parmesan cheese. It might not work for all kids, but it’s worth a try. It’s all about how you present it to them, and what kid doesn’t like chips?
Breads & Muffins
You can also sneak veggies into bread and muffins. Going back to the “presentation”––you can tell them it’s cake! A crowd favorite is zucchini bread, and you can cut back on the sugar content to make it a little more healthy if that’s the goal. Some people even add apples or even bananas into the zucchini bread. You have a lot of flexibility with bread and muffins!
As parents, we worry incessantly about whether or not our children get enough of what they need. Some days we feel like we totally miss the mark, and other days we feel like we totally rocked it!
