If you follow a gluten-free and paleo diet, then you’ll know how hard it can be to find something on the menu that you can eat sometimes when you go out for dinner, especially when you’re in a large group and you didn’t have much of a say to the choice of venue. There’s obviously a gap in the market for a restaurant that caters to people like us, so if you’re thinking of stepping up, we’ve put together some tips and advice.

What’s on the menu?

One of the most important aspects of a restaurant like this one is obviously the food. You’ll need to sit down and plan all the dishes that you’ll be serving and finding cost-effective recipes while ensuring you’re still using high-quality ingredients. You’ll need to think about what kinds of dishes you’ll be serving. Will the menu be different for breakfast, lunch, and dinner? Will there be seasonal changes, depending on what produce is available throughout the year? These are all worthwhile things to consider together with your chef.

Where will it be?

The location of the restaurant is also very important. Not only will you want a reasonably-sized kitchen, but you’ll also need to think about how big you want the restaurant to be, and how many customers you expect to be serving. If possible, it’s also a good idea to be close to transport links, such as train stations or city centers, so customers will be able to find you easily.

How will you look after your business?

Accidents can happen all the time, and whether it’s something small like a leak, or something as serious as a customer injuring themselves in your restaurant, you’ll need to protect your business. You should look into getting business insurance for your restaurant, which will require you to pay a small fee either every month or ever year. You can find business insurance quotes at next-insurance.com if you want to know more. After all, running a restaurant will be stressful enough without worrying about accidents.

Who’s going to come?

Even if you’ve found the perfect location and come up with the best possible menu, your restaurant will still need one more thing – customers. As it’s a gluten-free and paleo restaurant, you already have a niche market who’ll hopefully love the restaurant and keep coming back for more. All you need to do is let them know about it. As we read on restaurantden.com, you’ll definitely need to get the word out about your restaurant, either through social media or mailing list. You could even set up a pop-up stall at a nearby food market or give out samples of some of your dishes so people have a better idea of what you’ll be selling.

Can you afford it?

This is probably the most important thing to consider. After all, if you can’t afford to open up a restaurant, then there’s no point coming up with a menu or insuring your business. Do you have enough savings to open up a restaurant and keep it running for at least six months without bringing in profit? If not, then that doesn’t mean your business dream is over. You can apply for a loan, find investors to help you, or even try out a crowdfunding website such as kickstarter.com. There are plenty of options out there, such as taking a small business loan from Kapitus or another private lender.

There’s certainly a lot to think about. Hopefully, some of this advice has helped or even inspired you to consider opening a restaurant. If it has, then good luck!
