Breastfeeding is vital in baby’s growth and development. The breast milk has essential nutrients that the baby needs especially in the first days and years of life. It is also a time for mother-baby bonding.

Here are a couple of things you need to know about breastfeeding.

  1. Diet Plays an Important Role

Remember, you cannot breastfeed if you are not producing milk for your baby. To constantly produce milk, then you need to pay good attention to your diet. Generally, milk is full of protein, so a lot of foods that are rich in proteins will be the best fit. Oatmeal, fish, fruits, green vegetables, and nuts are the best for milk production. Additionally, food rich in calories in the range of 300-500 is also highly recommended.

Another important part of the diet is water. Water is a very essential component for milk producing for babies. A lot of mothers fail to drink enough water despite its importance. Ensure that you drink lots of water each day without fail.

  1. Protects the Baby

According, to the World Health Organization, around 800,000 babies’ lives would be saved each year from exclusive breastfeeding between 6 months to 2 years. The health benefits of breastfeeding to babies cannot be overemphasized. In most instances, the milk is the only safe and nutritious food available for newborn babies.

Breastfeeding helps to provide nutrition that helps to keep the baby growing healthy. Crucial antibodies are passed to the baby-protecting it against conditions such as allergies, respiratory infections, eye and ear infections, and sudden infant death syndrome. The milk helps to substitute the vaccines which come later on after a few months.

Studies show that newborns who are breastfed constantly right from birth tend to suffer few cases of hospitalization as opposed to those that don’t.

  1. CBD Can Affect Breastfeeding

The big question that many breastfeeding mothers ask, Is it safe to use CBD oil while breastfeeding? The positive effects of CBD oil use have been documented widely in a number of research studies.

For one, CBD oil has been shown to have the potential to decrease the Postpartum Depression in most mothers. But, in terms of breastfeeding there is a shortage of research to back up the safety use of CBD oil while breastfeeding.

Despite this, it will still be wise for you to at least consume CBD Oil once in a while during your breastfeeding period since it is regarded as a natural medicine. Ensure to keep an eye on your baby for any changes.

Make sure you read more about CBD oil before using it during breastfeeding.

  1. Certain Medical Conditions Deter Breastfeeding

Despite the factor that breastfeeding is important, there are instances where it is highly not recommended since it could harm the baby.

You should not breastfeed when you are HIV positive, an untreated strain of tuberculosis, receiving chemotherapy, abusing drugs and alcohol, and when taking certain prescription medications.

Conditions such as Flu and cold should not deter you from breastfeeding. Ensure that you consult your GP in case you are not sure how to go about with breastfeeding your baby.
