It’s a new year, which means a new chapter in your life. For some, this includes navigating parenthood and all its challenges. If you’ve just welcomed a baby, you likely understand these joys and trials all too well. One of the challenges you may be adjusting to is your postpartum body and figuring out how to dress in a way that makes you feel beautiful. Whether you’re looking for ways to switch up your style for the new year or maintain the style you had pre-baby, there are plenty of tips you can follow to make dressing your postpartum body a breeze. Here are four to get you started.

1. You Don’t Have to Abandon Your Pre-Baby Style

Just because you’re a mother now doesn’t mean you’re no longer you. If you loved contemporary and traditional styles before having your baby, then you’ll probably feel your most confident sporting your favorite traditional dress. If you loved peplum tops and fit-and-flare dresses before the baby arrived, you can still rock them postpartum. Don’t forget to prioritize your individuality in your postpartum wardrobe, just as you would have before.

2. Embrace Dark Colors

Between pregnancy, childbirth and breastfeeding, your body has undergone some significant changes. It’s only natural that your body looks a bit (or a lot) different. If you’re feeling slightly disconnected from or self-conscious about your post-baby body, don’t worry; it’s a completely normal feeling that many new moms face.

A great way to combat any body image issues you may have is to opt for dark colors in your wardrobe. Dark colors are naturally slimming and hide the contours of your body, which is super helpful if you’re hoping to dress a bit more modestly. You can’t go wrong with black or dark shades of purple, blue and grey.

3. Veer Towards Jumpsuits and Dresses

For new mothers with hectic schedules, convenience is key. That’s why jumpsuits and dresses are must-have staples in every mom’s wardrobe. Not only are these pieces super flattering and versatile, but they’re incredibly easy and convenient. You don’t have to worry about matching a top and bottom; you simply throw the frock on and you’re good to go.

4. Keep It Flowy

While adjusting to your postpartum body, you may be hoping to conceal your midsection a little bit more than usual. Choosing flowy and billowy silhouettes is a great way to do exactly that. Not only are these styles very trendy, but they are also perfect for breastfeeding because they can easily be lifted and/or stretched away from the body to make room for the baby. Grab a loose t-shirt dress or a billowy dress that masks any areas you may have insecurities about.Motherhood comes with a host of challenges, with one of them being adjusting to your post-baby body. While it may feel slightly daunting at first, experimenting with different postpartum styles is a fun opportunity to play with your look and come into your style as a mother. By using these easy-to-follow tips, you’ll ensure that you look and feel your absolute best.
