The skin is the largest organ in our bodies, and it’s more complex than you think! More often than not, our skin’s health reflects our overall health, so having nice, glowy skin is not vanity but proof that everything is working correctly inside out.

The skin is the largest organ in our bodies, and it’s more complex than you think! More often than not, our skin’s health reflects our overall health, so having nice, glowy skin is not vanity but proof that everything is working correctly inside out.

Read on and find a healthy food list for your skin, but remember, eating healthy food is only half the story. Learning how to cook it correctly to make the most out of its flavor and nutrition matters too! See if you’re already eating some of these foods often.

1. Avocados

Avocados are authentic superfoods. Did you know they have more potassium than bananas? And that’s just the beginning. Avocados have lots of healthy monounsaturated fats, the right kind of fat you should be eating. These fats will keep your circulatory system healthy and clean, and they’ll also keep your skin moisturized, shiny and elastic.

Avocados also add to your diet vitamin E, which is widely known for its skin-protective properties. Mangoes and kiwis are also good sources of this essential vitamin!

2. Fatty Fish

Fatty fish like salmon, tuna, mackerel, sardines and eels are more flavorful than your average whitefish, and they’re better for your health as well, especially for your skin. Not dissimilar to avocados, fatty fish are also a super source for healthy oils and Omega-3 fatty acids, a natural anti-inflammatory.

Fatty or oily fish also contains vitamin E and many essential minerals that’ll keep your overall health in check. There’s a reason why fish oil supplements are popular treatments for skin issues — of course, eating the fish is way better than taking fish oil!

3. Nuts and Seeds

Most nuts and seeds, including sunflower seeds, walnuts, peanuts, pine nuts, almonds and hazelnuts, are extraordinary sources of healthy oils and minerals, just what your body needs to keep your skin healthy.

Seeds and nuts are awesome for another reason; they’re fantastic snacks to eat at any time of day, substituting unhealthier grab-and-go fast foods like chips and cookies. Quench your cravings with nuts, and you’ll notice healthier skin — you might even lose some weight in the process.

4. Tomatoes

Tomatoes are delicious and versatile. They’re good for your skin, too, because they have beta-carotene and other carotenoids, including lutein and lycopene. These molecules are beneficial to protect your skin from harmful UV sunrays, responsible for dry skin, premature aging and even skin cancer.

Carotenes are also antioxidants, so they will bind with free radicals floating in your bloodstream. These toxic compounds damage your skin and other tissue at a cellular level, so you want to keep them under control.

Take Care of Your Skin!

Taking care of your skin should be one of your top health priorities. Not only because who doesn’t like elastic and shiny skin? But also, because although resistant, skin is more delicate than you think.

Eat skin-healthy foods and stay away from excess sun exposure. Moisturize often and check your skin regularly for spots, rashes and moles. Taking care of your skin is easier than you think, so take care of yourself and your loved ones through food!
