With so many people staying indoors for a longer time than before thanks to the global pandemic and the current season, it’s important to have good quality air indoors. Have a look below to see five ways in which you can improve your indoor air quality and improve your family’s health.

Change Your Air Filters

Your air conditioner works hard to keep air in circulation inside your house. To make sure the air is clean and fresh, it’s advisable to change the filters regularly. Find out the required number of times you need to change the filters depending on the area you live in and how polluted the air outdoors is. With the possibility that the quality of air indoors can be two to five times worse than that outdoors, according to the EPA, it’s important to make sure your filters are clean so the pollutants don’t make it into your house.

Buy an Air Purifier

To make sure that indoor allergens don’t directly impact your health or that of other family members, you can get an air purifier. Whether it’s ionic or another type, it will help decrease potential allergens in your house like fur from pets and more by trapping most of the irritants floating around. Place it in the spaces that are used the most often so that everyone is comfortable and it makes the biggest impact.

Get More Plants

Plants are natural air filters and they can double up as decor when placed around the house. Perhaps more impressive is the fact that a healthy tree can be valued at up to $10,000. To make sure you’re getting the best they have to offer, do research on the specific plants you would like to find out if they can cause any health issues, especially if there are people with severe allergies in your home. Place them in decorative glass vases and water them as often as necessary so that they stay healthy for a long time.

Clean the Carpets and Rugs

The carpets and rugs in your home may trap a lot of dust and other allergens within their fibers in daily use. Make sure that these pollutants don’t make their way back into your home by cleaning all rugs and carpets at least once a week, especially those in high-traffic areas. You can perform a deep clean every month or so. That way you’ll have less to clean in between this time. A quality vacuum is all you need to get clean, fresh air in your home throughout.

Control the Humidity

High levels of humidity can pose a problem indoors as they help create an environment in which mold can thrive. Make sure to keep it between 30% to 50% at all times, and you will enjoy minimal health issues. If you live in an area with high humidity in the air, getting a dehumidifier will work wonders for your home. Place it in the home’s common spaces, and get another one to place in your basement and other places prone to dampness so that no mold and mildew will start to grow. Whenever possible, even during colder months, open the windows to let air circulate freely, especially in rooms like the bathroom and toilet. This will help keep the air quality at optimum levels for free.

It’s important to make sure that the air you and your family breathe is clean throughout the house. This will make it possible to stay comfortable and in good health at all times while at home and in all seasons.
