Time. It’s one of those things everyone wishes they had more of but impossible to acquire. There are only 24 hours in a day, and eight of those are spent sleeping. When you were younger, you could accomplish so much in a day without feeling tired or burned out. However, now, getting up in the mornings is a chore. Some days you can barely keep your eyes open. It makes you wonder what’s changed.

You’ve tried everything from drinking multiple cups of coffee to taking energy shots, but they do very little to resolve your problem. You know you can’t keep functioning like this, or it will begin to hurt you physically and mentally, but what can you do? Luckily, there are steps you can take to boost your energy levels and seize the day.

Fuel Your Body

It’s not uncommon for people to skip breakfast or work through lunch, but this habit ultimately drains your energy. Much like a car needs gas, your body needs fuel to function. If you’re not eating enough food or the foods you eat have few vitamins, nutrients, and minerals, your energy levels drop throughout the day.

Ensure that you’re eating at least three meals a day. There are plenty of recipes and ideas for quick yet nutritious meals you can try. You can drink a smoothie with clean protein powder in the morning, have a salad, soup, or a sandwich for lunch, and dinner that includes lean protein, colorful veggies, and a healthy side.

Put Down The Sugar

If drinking tea or coffee with a ton of sugar or consuming sweet foods is a common practice, you must break the habit. Although it may feel like you’re getting a boost from the sugar, it’s only temporary. Eventually, your body crashes, zapping any energy you had left.

Your body needs some sugar for energy, but the type and amount of sugar you consume make a big difference. Stick to small amounts of all-natural sweeteners like raw honey, agave, or stevia.

Stay Hydrated

Medical experts recommend drinking at least eight cups of water or half your body weight in ounces of water every day. Unfortunately, most adults don’t consume that much h2o, resulting in dehydration. When you’re dehydrated, your body is losing more fluids and electrolytes than it can reproduce, causing you to feel tired.

You need to drink the recommended amount of water to stay energized. If necessary, purchase a water bottle and keep fresh spring water with you at all times. If you’re not a fan of water, you could try adding unsweetened flavoring to your water or fresh fruit to enhance the drink without consuming too much sugar.

Go Outside

If your mornings start before the sun rises or you spend a significant amount of time indoors, it can negatively affect your energy levels. Your brain (and thus your body) receives signals that help it dictate your level of alertness. If you’re always in the dark or under artificial light, it’s easy to start feeling tired in just a few hours.

You’ll be surprised what 15 to 20 minutes in the sun can do for your energy levels. When the sun is shining, open your windows to expose sunlight or get up and go outside. The sunlight will boost serotonin levels which can help you feel more energized. You can take a walk, exercise, or just stand in the sun for a few moments before starting your day.

Getting through the hustle and bustle of everyday life is strenuous enough. When your energy levels are low, it adds to the problem and causes you to waste valuable time. While there’s nothing you can do to add more hours to the day, you can take steps towards boosting your energy levels. When you feel energized throughout the day, you’re more productive and thus feel more accomplished. So, instead of downing a bunch of caffeine or sugar, give these easy and natural energy-boosting strategies to make the most of your day.
