Make taco night a breeze with this tender and flavorful Slow Cooker Taco Meat recipe. Dump ground beef and simple spices in your slow cooker and dinner is done! This will become your families favorite taco!
Growing up, every night was Taco Tuesday in my house. My mom would take ground beef and throw it into a skillet with some taco seasoning and diced onions and dinner was done. I seriously looked forward to those delicious weeknight tacos.
When we got older she went on a kick and started making it with ground turkey, which honesty, I didn’t like.
Now that I’m a mom and in charge of the weekly meal plan I wanted to make my own taco meat recipe using from scratch using real ingredients like green chilies, ground beef and use my slow cooker.
I also make a homemade taco seasoning to skip our on store bought taco seasoning. My husband loves things spicy, so I do add a little cayenne from time to time.
How to make Slow Cooker Taco Meat:
- 1 tablespoon chili powder
- 1 teaspoon ground cumin
- 1 teaspoon sea salt
- 1 teaspoon black pepper
- 1/2 teaspoon coriander
- 1/2 teaspoon dried oregano
- 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1/2 teaspoon onion powder
- 1/2 teaspoon paprika
- 1/4 teaspoon crushed red pepper
- 2 lbs. lean ground beef or ground turkey
- 3 tablespoons tomato paste
In a small bowl combine all the spices to make the homemade taco seasoning.
Add the beef, tomato paste and spices to the slow cooker. Use a spoon to mix up the ingredients and break up the ground beef.
Cook on low for 4 hours.
Break up the ground beef some more.
Use a slotted spoon to remove the ground beef from the slow cooker / crockpot and serve.
Chef’s tip: You can reserve 2 teaspoons of the taco seasoning and add it in the last 30 minutes of cooking. This extra step isn’t necessary, but it will heighten the flavor of the meat!
